I’ve created lots of websites in the past using the tried and tested method of creating tables and messing about with spacer images until everything seems to work. Sometimes, this has been a hugely frustrating undertaking - especially trying to get things to work across browsers.
…and then we change something, and it all falls to pieces!!!
Now, I’ve always used CSS to manage the styles across my sites, Read more…
I’ve added a link to the right-hand sidebar of this site for Book Recommendations. This is where you’ll find all the books that I’ve personally found useful, as well as other programming relating books that may be helpful to you.
You can also go straight there via http://www.johnlandells.com/Recommends/Books
As Windows has become more and more complex, it’s become harder to write useful scripts that keep you on track.
Enter “PowerShell” - a great tool from Microsoft that helps you get to grips with all the scripting you could want within a Windows environment. Essentially, I see it as a cross between batch files, Perl, and UNIX shell scripting with the end result being a powerful tool for system admins.
I could tell you more about it, but you’re better off either looking at the Microsoft PowerShell Blog at http://blogs.msdn.com/PowerShell/, or getting hold of a book on the subject, such as the excellent Windows PowerShell in Action.
Enjoy!
I’ve only recently discovered the “Notebook” series from O’Reilly, having long since been a fan of their books. This book takes you from the position of “familiar with C#.NET” and transforms you into a guru!
The format is very much a hands-on tutorial - it’s not a book to read on a long journey! You need to be sitting at the keyboard and imersed in what it tells you to do.
The author is not only very knowledgable, but also very good at passing on knowledge and experience in a format that is pleasant and easy to read.
All in all, a great purchase for anyone who needs to improve their C#.NET skills.
