One of the nice features of Worpress (used for this blog) is that people can register as a user which lets themreceive notifications whenever I add new content. Whenever this happens, I receive an email notification that they’ve registered - and as you can imagine, I like receiving emails like this.
Today though, this all changed! Read more…
Wow - that was SO EASY!
You know what it’s like with ANY upgrade - I was understandably nervous. The reality was that it took me longer to back everything up before I started than it did to actually run the upgrade!
If anyone hit the maintenance page that’s been up for about 10 minutes - I apologise and I hope that you made it back in order to see the new site in all it’s glory!
In fact, the site looks just the same as it did before the upgrade on the front page (so the Semiologic theme IS in fact compatible with 2.5) it’s just the admin interface that’s changed drastically - and for the better, it seems!
As I get more familiar with the changes, I may well post some more info. For now - now that I know that the “posting” function still works
- I can deactivate the maintenance page and get the site back up.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with Wordpress 2.5, or was it more challenging for you?
Please leave your comments below….
Well, I may be mad, but I’ve decided to upgrade to the latest version of Wordpress - version 2.5! This seems to be a huge step forward from my current version, and I’d love to think everything will “just work”. My biggest concern though, is with the Semiologic theme that I’ve been using. It hasn’t been updated since 27th June 2007 and I have a horrible feeling that my whole design will come crashing round my feet when I try to restart the blog….!
I’m planning to tackle this before the end of the week, so if you visit my blog during this time and it’s down - please come back again!
For my Entrecard advertisers, I’m intending to put up a holding/maintenance page (maybe even a duplicate site), but if I DO cause any significant downtime, I’ll reimburse the people affected with double the credits that they originally paid me for the ad space. That’s fair, isn’t it?
Finally, I’ll post an update here when the upgrade’s in place.
Watch this space……
I’m evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.
It covers:
- The best blogging techniques.
- How to get traffic to your blog.
- How to turn your blog into money.
I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it’s still free.
Just a quick note today - I’ve just been alerted to “ClickComments” which is a small widget that enhances the experience of visitors to your blog. You’ll see at the end of each of my posts, there’s now an area where you can click to give visual feedback on the quality of my post..
Please take the time to check this out yourself and let me know if you think it’s valuable.
