Frequent visitors to John’s Tech Blog will no doubt notice that the Entrecard widget from the right-hand sidebar has gone. I’ve been monitoring my traffic for some time and noticed that the worst quality traffic that I was receiving came from Entrecard. Clearly, the majority of users are simply using this as a mechanism to get traffic (which it does deliver) but when the average visitor looks at 1.12 pages and stays for less than 20 seconds, clearly I’m wasting my screen space.
With this in mind, I have some plans for the space that was previously taken up with the Entrecard widget. Watch this space to find out more….
What are your thoughts? Are you still using Entrecard? Are you finding it beneficial? Please leave a comment below…

The return on the time Entrecard expects you to invest isn’t worthwhile. I’ve left it on most of my blogs, but I don’t waste time dropping. I only drop if I would’ve visited the blog anyway!

Hi John,
Thanks for the comment. I considered leaving the widget (maybe at the bottom of the page or something) but i have a better use for the real estate.

Hi DJYano,
Sorry, yes – I rejected all ads and set my Entrecard account to no longer allow ads. However, I like your site and would recommend anyone reading this to visit!
Cheers,
-John.

Entrecard lost its charm, when we started to get bunch of sites like powerdropper and other places, which offered you list of 300 sites, which are fast to respond for daily Entrecard drops.
Similar functionality has probably existed from the day Entrecard became open for public, but this one drop entry level for making 300 entries too low.
I personally dropped Entrecard from my sites, when I started to worry about click through rate in my AdSense banners.

Hi Juha,
That’s exactly the experience that I was having when I started analyzing my stats!

hmmm, the reloading of page timed out and don’t know if comment went through. Sorry if I’ve double posted!
I can fully understand what you are saying. Yes I do still use Entrecard. But I can promise you, my days with it are very much numbered!
As to your question, “Are you finding it beneficial?”
I do think my time using Entrecard has been worth my time. Not from the traffic I’ve gotten because it has not best that great. But it has brought me together with some great people and their blogs that I haven’t ran across on any other system. And people/friends are worth more to me than any big amount of traffic.
Have a great day!

I dumped entrecard about a month ago. It was getting to be too much work for very little benefit.

Hi Chilly,
Thanks for the comment (just the one!
)
I hadn’t considered that aspect, but I agree with you – the human side can be very important! In my case, the time / traffic / screen space argument definitely outweighs the social side.
Cheers,
-John.
