Well that was even easier than I expected! The whole process (backups and all) took about 25 minutes!
If anyone else is thinking of doing this, don’t worry! As long as you follow the instructions, it should be plain sailing!

Hey John!
Your blog design is awesome, I like how you display multiple posts on the main page.
We use Moveable Type for our enterprise blog platform. I wanted to swith to Wordpress but the security guys would not go for it because it uses PHP. I use it for my other personal blog.

The theme is a free one that I found (see the footer for a link) but I’ve modified it quite a bit to suit my needs.

Hi John, I used ‘Wordpress Automatic Upgrade’ plugin for the first time with version 2.7 and loved it. I actually used it on five blogs without a single problem and it just takes a few minutes each. No FTP and it even takes you through the backup process. I was pretty impressed.
